HIV/AIDS Privacy Class Action

We have commenced a proposed class proceeding on behalf of 800 residents of British Columbia whose HIV+ status was unlawfully disclosed during a university research study.

The disclosure occurred during the recruitment phase of a research study developed and executed by the University of British Columbia and the Positive Living Society of British Columbia. The unfortunate disclosure was preventable with the use of rudimentary security planning and oversight.

This action is currently being case managed by the British Columbia Supreme Court. We anticipate applying to certify this action as a class proceeding under the Class Proceedings Act in 2018. Please contact us for more information. More to come.
